I want to do a road trip to San Luis Potosi... But I’m not sure if I should do it.

Kinja'd!!!

It’d be the Stinger’s longest trip, five-and-change hours, but my real issue is that I’m not sure if I want to do it alone.

Kinja'd!!!

I already found the hotel, and what things to do there, so what does oppo say?

Find someone to go with, if that’s the dealbreaker.

You should do it! Road trips alone are fun too, and interesting restaurants and local watering holes have a way of introducing you to new folks anyway.

Man, I really want to... Even cutting the five hour stint in half and stopping in Queretaro or San Miguel de Allende sounds nice..

I once played a baseball game in San Luis, Arizona. Border Patrol agents watched our game (which we won). Why that fuck was a high school 173 miles away from mine in my district?

This same high sc hool won the state championship in fútbol thr ee years after joining our district.

Do it with a friend. I flew to Salt Lake City from Denver with a buddy and we drove my new Abarth back. We did it in a day so we had to pick highways instead of byways, but it was  a blast. Find someone - it will be more fun.

#WesternSquare States

San Luis Potosi is very different, and very far from AZ.... They don’t win football stuff either....

Taking a Mexican backroad sounds scary, but I am going to one of the boring states that don’t have much crime, so maybe?

Just pretend you’re a narcotraficante looking for new mules. You drive a nice car, it should work, right?

Imagine all the cool little towns and great food and drinks you can find on the way. I’m salivating... some of the best food I ever had in my life was in hole in the walls in Mexico. El Zarape for tacos al pastor and Los Claros for tacos mariscos- both outside of tourist areas in Cabo San Lucas... damn I’m hungry now.

To be honest, eating bad in Los Cabos is virtually impossible, unless you opt for the hotel’s included breakfast.

I’d probably want a friend along on a trip of that length no matter what country . When I go to Walmart or questionable areas of town, I usually opt to drive my 12 year old Corolla. It doesn’t draw unneeded attention.  Your KIA Stinger is a nice car.

Some places were not memorable, but the two I mentioned, plus Pedro’s for grilled snapper are some of the most memorable food experiences of my life. We ate at all three of them multiple times. Only tacos that compare in USA are Tacos El Gordo in Las Vegas. Their pork tacos are to die for - con crema, cebolla, cilantro, rábano... fresh tortillas made right in front of you. I am this close to leaving my house for a taco joint, right now. Must be my White Russian talking :)

Oh that’s a really good point!

Though I am only going on Federal highways and the very safest states in the country (Queretaro, Guanajuato) I’m uncertain if San Luis Potosi makes the ranking, but I don’t think my car will be much of an issue.

I’m gonna get there; hide the car in the hotel lot, and use taxis the rest of the time I guess.

Fresh tortillas are the best thing in this planet, specially if you get them still hot from the oven.

If you want a culinary attack, go to San Miguel de Allende... you won’t regret going into any restaurant you see.

I’m just an average gringo - no ocean and no beach = no visit :). I keed I keed, I’d totally go anywhere for good food. We’re going to Rome for Christmas.  I complied a list of every great restaurant we want to visit. Pizza, pasta , gelato and wine - we probably won’t eat anything but for 9 days.

That sounds like a great trip!

Also, Italians do drive as bad as everyone says they do.

Road trips are fun and memorable. I recommend taking a passenger(friend, family, romantic interest) to share in the fun.

But if you wanted/have to go by yourself it is doable. The longest I drove by myself was 7.5 hours, but I was traveling in a convoy so people to socialize with at the destination. I also drove 2.5 hours completely by myself to a football game then drove back 2.5 hours in the same day

Your 5 hour trip shouldn’t be a problem, consider stopping once or twice to get out of the car for a break, stretch or get something to eat. Remember to stay hydrated . You’ll do this trip and wonder why you don’t go more often, and you’ll be planning your next trip before you know it.
